"It's difficult to describe the feeling I have when I leave Jon's weekly class: lighter seems to sum it up, but at the same time more stable, more 'whole'.......The idea of stopping yoga now seems inconceivable and it's exciting to think that I'm only at the very beginning and that the physical and mental benefits I am starting to experience will only increase with time". Jon is an Iyengar Yoga teacher

Jon Hunt is an experienced Iyengar yoga teacher. He has been practising since 1997 and teaching since 2001. Jon has also taught in Swindon and at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in Maida Vale, London, and in Bath. As well as teaching yoga, he is a full time member of staff at the University of Bristol.

Why is Iyengar Yoga good for you?

Iyengar yoga is said to focus on the following aspects:

  • Correct body alignment - to avoid injury or adverse pain when practising correctly
  • Strengthening, toning and relaxing muscles – to be able to support the postures and improve the body
  • The use of props (blankets, belts and foam blocks) to assist the body into the correct positions, allowing for different levels of strength, fitness and mobility.
